Welcome! I am a computer geek with a tremendous drive to learn new technologies and to grow myself in as many ways, both personally and professionally, as possible.
About Me
I have a very strong impulse to read, learn and do as many things as I can get my hands on. I am able to pick up new technologies and concepts very quickly, and within a short amount of time gain a fair level of proficiency with them.
When I am thrown into a new situation, I make sure to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible so that I can develop a clear plan of action. Once I know what needs to be done and have a plan to do it, I'm like a steam roller that can't be stopped.
I enjoy a number of things outside of my interests in technology. I enjoy traveling and hiking to new places to see and experience new things. I enjoy photography as well, some of which can be seen on one of my other websites: joelbw.com. Photography requires the photographer to to take a much more active and engaged role in his environment, often noticing things that most people would simply never see.
Writing is also one of my interests, though I don't get as much of a chance to do it as I'd like. As with photography, writing requires one to really focus and pay attention to ideas and details and, if done correctly, can be something of a zen experience.
When push comes to shove, I'm really just another unique individual making my way through life's many trials, joy's and experiences.

Application Engineer at Trustwave in Chicago, IL - 2011 to Present
- Built and maintain a 500+ virtual server infrastructure using ESX 4 and Nexsan SAN Storage, primarily CentOS 5.5 Servers running Apache Tomcat and MySQL
- Configure and maintain LVS for redundant and load balanced network infrastructure
- Monitor physical and virtual machine resource usage and react to issues and failures
- Build and deploy custom RPM's to testing and production environments
